Lake Highlands Dallas Maternity Session

May 26, 2020

Rebecca is a fellow photographer and over the last few years, we’ve traded sessions with each other.  Her maternity session was especially meaningful and I felt very honored to get to photograph her with her family at her home in Lake Highlands, and later her newborn session once baby Vincent arrived. Today I’m sharing a few of my favorites from her maternity session. You may have seen they were also shared by my favorite motherhood blog, The Fount Collective. Soon I’ll share some from her newborn session!

Here is a snippet I shared with The Fount Collective about working together:

Rebecca is also a photographer, so we met a few years ago through the wedding industry. We started trading family sessions during the holidays about three years ago. I had my second baby girl almost two years ago in 2018, and Rebecca photographed my family while I was pregnant and once baby Rio arrived. I knew Rebecca wanted to add to her family, and I looked forward to the day when I could repay the favor she did for my family.

Being a mom myself, I know now that anticipation of waiting for a baby, whether it’s your first or second time. Pregnancy can sometimes be uncomfortable -your body is changing every day. But it’s such an incredible thing you are doing and I think even with all those crazy changes (swollen feet, anyone?!) there’s always a level of gratitude and excitement I see in the moms I get to photograph. I love capturing that special moment for families. It’s really just such a sweet time. Once a baby does arrive, everything feels so different and new. There’s a magical element a baby brings into a home, and I love getting to capture that as well. With Rebecca, I knew how much this moment meant to her and her family. They hoped for this day for a long time, so it was really meaningful to get to witness and document it.

All images shot on film and processed and scanned by Goodman Film Lab in Irvine, California. Rebecca’s navy dress is Christy Dawn and her straw hat is Xinh and Co.

I’m a wedding and portrait photographer based in Dallas, Texas. I believe in offering beautiful and timeless photographs of you and your family that show you in a loving and authentic way. It’s important to me to document you in such a way that displays who you are as a family and preserve your moment in time. That might sound corny, but I believe when you become a parent, time moves incredibly quickly! Parenthood can bring joy and heartache, often times simultaneously! As a mother myself, I make it a point to have my family photographed twice a year. Kids change so quickly!

My goal is to create something for you that you can cherish for years to come. Something that marks a specific time in a specific place and your family as it is. For more information or to book a family portrait session, contact me today.
